“virtual woollen blankets”
Years ago, I started to produce tactile photo collages and “virtual textiles” like “virtual sarongs”, “virtual woollen blankets” re-using all kinds of rest materials (from my studio, atelier) like woollen blanket material, cut out work of old art magazines, nature books from the 70th, speaker wires, etc. creating new meaningful digital photo collage works.
Reflecting woollen artifacts (“woollen art-i-fact”) from past and future: referring to Dutch textile industry/design history of woollen blankets/carpets, (de)colonial/religious symbols, changing (sound) ecologies and biodiversity during the Anthropocene, playful new scientific possibilities (new ways of data collecting, etc.) in the need of respect for human and nonhuman creatures, the nature, social, tactful, tactile, colourful, warm, harmonising, rebalancing, symmetries.
‘Virtual woollen blankets” for print and projection including slow animations with and without soundscapes.
Here you can you can find and shop a selection of my “virtual woollen blankets” on Fine Arts America: printing possibilities on several media as fine art print papers, canvas, metal, acryl, wood (also bags or greeting card). Around 1,40 m high materials in the tactile collages will have a more realistic size; close up you can see the details in context, taking more distance (or choosing smaller prints) you can experience the (natural) symmetries and (different) patterns of the work.
“virtual woollen blanket, plankton/stingray 2” (ocean series, Indian Ocean)
Does all live start in the ocean? A feast of diversity, with the smallest plankton as a collection of organisms planking, drifting (not swimming) the currents and waves in the oceans. They provide a source of food to the smallest and biggest aquatic creatures from shells, starfish’s, fishes to whales and stingrays, feeding animals and humans. The phytoplankton grows by pulling carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, producing fresh oxygen, creating a healthier ecosystem in the ocean and on land. Rising temperatures of oceans by climate changes affects declining grow and the change of composition of planktons and bio diversity of the ocean. The largest stingrays like Manta’s (and woollen stingrays) consume vast quantities of plankton and swimming in acrobatic patterns through plankton clouds.
